Competition Operations at Jenola Field
We are facing some changes at Jenola this season with our move to Greenhills coming later in the season.
Lawrie Daly and Allen Kavanagh have retired.
Lawrie ran the canteen for Bosco for more years than I can remember. He ensured we had drinks, donuts, coffee, lollies, chips etc to buy. He always had ice on hand for injuries, bibs for uniform clashes and a supply of mouthguards and hot water for moulding them for players who forgot. He operated the game hooter to ensure that we started and finished on time and he managed the match cards box to ensure all match cards got to the registrar for results to be recorded. He made sure there was a printed draw available and visible each week.
Allen has been working at Jenola for probably as long. Allen supervised the BBQ for Tartans and helped out with the timing of games and drills rotations for the Under 7s and stepped in to umpire if needed as well.
With Allen and Lawrie moving on, clubs will need to step in more to ensure that our season runs smoothly.
Duty Clubs
- will have two duty clubs each week. These will be noted on the draws.
There will be a club allocated to under 7 duty team. (Week 1 is RSL) Their responsibilities:
- set up the drills for the Under 7 skills program;
- set up the goals for the games (on 1/8 of a field);
- then move the goals into position for the Under 9 games once the under 7 games are finished;
- run the little buzzer to ensure teams rotate their drills on time and start and end their games on time.
There is also a duty club allocated as the Jenola duty club. (Week 1 is Sharks) Their responsibilities:
- run the main hooter to time the games on Jenola 2 (under 11 field) and Jenola 3 (under 13 field)
- move bins prior to the start of play so that there are bins at each field
- at the end of the play each morning move the bins back to near the Jenola 2 gate for the garbage collection
- put out the A frame boards on code of conduct – one near the entrance to Jenola 3 from the corner of Gannons Road and the Kingsway; the other on the concrete near the amenities block
- ensure the nets are put up and taken down on the goals on Jenola 3 and Jenola 2 road and that the portable goal is set up at the other end of the Jenola 2 under 11 field.
- ensure that the goals from Under 9s are packed away at the end of the morning
- ensure that the A frame boards are returned to the shed at the end of the morning
- ensure that the goal nets and portable goal are returned to the shed at the end of the morning
