Bosco Under 13’s 6 v Tartans Titans 4
Spare-parts Bosco Team Scores a Gutsy Win
On a very cold Saturday morning at Marang, the Bosco Under 13’s team took on tough rivals Tartans, a team against whom we had only one win and two draws from three matches this season.
The lead up to the game was not looking good for Bosco continuing their unbeaten run, with six regular players and the coach missing and a long list of Under 11 and even Under 9 players lining up to play. The shortages did allow Rhydian to take to field in all three grades today, a rare feat and certainly a challenge that he was capable of taking on.
The team was down early after a Tartans short corner and were unlucky not to be on even terms after some good pressure on the Tartans goal. A lucky call on a short corner deflection goal to Oisin saw the scores level up at 1-1 and the game was on.
Brayden opened the second quarter with a goal from another short corner and shortly after, Oisin made it 3-1 with a field goal. Tartans then started to hold possession with only some excellent goalkeeping from Sam holding them out. Tartars converted a late opportunity and the teams went to half time at 3-2.
Some encouraging words to the team at halftime had them primed for a big second half. Tartans how3ever got the better of the play just after half time and were in after a long run down the file and a one on one with Sam. But this Bosco team was made of stern stuff today and despite the many shivers running through the team, were able to turn around momentum and get the ball to the attacking 25.
Oisin was certainly having a big game and with a weaving run around and through six or seven Tartans defenders, nailed home a goal. Towards the end of the third quarter, it was time for our defensive line to step up and Hayley and Jasmine were successful in channelling some promising Tartans attack away from the goals. Tartans did sneak a goal in and at three quarter time, it was 4-4.
The last speech to the team was all about playing with width in attack and holding positions. It wasn’t long into the final quarter when Isaak completely ignored that advice and sent a great pass straight through the middle of the field to Oisin who slotted home his fourth goal for the morning. Brayden completed the game with a back-stick shave goal and the game was ours. A great victory for this young team and vital experience and belief for the team with only four round games to go.

Battle-tough Bosco Start their March to the Finals
The Bosco Under 11’s team have scored a tough win against the Tiger Sharks at Marang Hockey Fields on Saturday.
Blustery and cold conditions greeted the players as they warmed up and then once the game was on, it was end to end action between both teams for the first ten minutes as both teams warmed into the game.
Rhydian went close after about 12 minutes and again shortly after, but no score was recorded. Lauren won us a short corner shortly after but it was well defended by Sharks. In the backs, Isaak and Caleb were defending well and getting the ball back up the field. Lauren W was having a good game in the middle and got the ball through on a number of occasions. A final short corner chance at the end of the first half was sent wide and the half time score was 0-0.
A change in tactics for the second half saw Bosco start to play a wider game. After a couple of early chances went begging, Brayden made a good break down the right hand touch line and brought it around to in front of goals and hammered it in to give us the lead, 1-0.
Sharks immediately had Bosco under pressure and went very close to scoring themselves, with Brayden again the player getting down to the ball in good defence. Some Perry brothers magic saw Rhydian and Oisin move the ball down the left hand side of the field before Lauren M jumped in to knock in the second goal and we were looking more comfortable at 2-0.
Sharks lifted in the period after this and their defence was proving hard to break. Evie was able to win a short corner for Bosco but Sharks held tight. Kiandra was all over the Sharks midfield by this time and Jack was also creating havoc with the Sharks defence.
To round out the game, a good move down the right saw Brayden bring the ball along the baseline into the circle and showing excellent vision, draw the goalie and pass it off to Isaak for the easiest of goals.
An excellent display of hockey form the Under 11 team, who are sneaking up the ladder and preparing for a big charge at the finals.

Bosco Under 9’s 2 v Tartans 0
The Bosco Under 9 team has scored an exciting 2-0 win over Tartans at Marang Hockey field.
A couple of late arrivals for the game had the coaches nervous and it want until about 10 minutes in that we had a full team. Once everyone had arrived, Bosco and Tartans put on an excellent display of Under 9’s hockey, with good attack being matched by equally good defence for much of the game.
Rhydian was able to find the back of the net twice during the game and the defence of Bosco was good enough to withstand some late Tartans attack. Oscar held firm in goals and each other player, Isabelle, Achilles, Cayleb and Kiandra all playing very well across the field.
